Typically, people view knife throwing as kind of a novelty act however if sufficient practice one can get quite good at it. I first got interested in knife throwing from this guy, Ralph Thorn, and started with his "no spin" throwing method. He literally throws the blade with zero spin as you can see in the video I posted here.
For me, I tend to prefer the single spin method because I have a much higher hit percentage. The only time I use no spin these days is if I'm at a moderate close range. Now this range changes due to the length of the blade however once I get out to a certain range; I use a single spin method which means I'm holding the knife by the blade. Using this method, I have about a 90% hit rate and I can branch out to further distances still using this single spin method. You would actually be surprised at just how far you can throw and how accurately you can throw with the single spin method.
This also works with any blade or object plus you don't have to be stationary or anything like that. I can throw just as easily moving as I can standing still. With Mr. Thorn, he is just freaking amazing!
